A Local Approach to Mapping MHA Screening Data: Cook County, IL.

With support from Lundbeck US, MHA and MHA Illinois worked together to explore a local approach for using MHA Screening data to improve policy decisions and get people help where they need it the most.
This ZIP Code Level Map is a dashboard that geographically visualizes data from mental health screens taken in Cook County at MHAScreening.org in 2020-2023. The interactive maps are able to identify the current need for mental health resources at a pace and scale that was not possible before.
The Following Dashboard Contains Data Collected On MHA Screening From Users in Cook County From January 2020-December 2023.
To use the Dashboard:
- Select the type of data you would like to view from the blue buttons within the dashboard.
- “Mental Health Condition” contains zip code level data for anxiety, depression, psychosis, and PTSD.
- “Suicidal Ideation” contains suicidal ideation data from question 9 of the PHQ-9 depression screen.
- “Trauma Survivors” contains data from individuals who self-identified as trauma survivors on the MHA Screening demographic questions.
On the “Mental Health Condition” view:
- Select which type of mental health condition to view (Anxiety, Depression, Psychosis, or PTSD) on the “Screen” drop-down list. When you select a condition, the views within the dashboard will change to show you the data for that condition.
- Select the age group (Adults, Youth, or All Ages) you would like to view on the "Age Range" drop-down list.
- Hover over each zip code for more information in the map and bar graph views.
On the “Suicidal Ideation” and “Trauma Survivors” views:
- Select the age group (Adults, Youth, or All Ages) you would like to view on the "Age Range" drop-down list.
- Hover over each zip code for more information in the map and bar graph views.
To reset your views and/or clear selections, click the Reset button at the bottom of each dashboard.
