The Awakenings Review, established at the University of Chicago in 2000, is one of the nation's leading literary reviews committed to publishing works by artists, poets, and writers who have a relationship to mental illness: either themselves, a family member, or a friend. The relationship between mental illness, writing, and poetic mastery has long been established. Of great importance is that The Awakenings Review is a means to self-expression, hope, and healing. Our journal receives submissions from all quarters of the U.S. and a host of foreign countries and showcases and champions these exceptional poets and writers in each of its twice-annual print journals.
