The Awakenings Review logoThe Awakenings Review, established at the University of Chicago in 2000, is one of the nation's leading literary reviews committed to publishing works by artists, poets, and writers who have a relationship to mental illness: either themselves, a family member, or a friend. The relationship between mental illness, writing, and poetic mastery has long been established. Of great importance is that The Awakenings Review is a means to self-expression, hope, and healing. Our journal receives submissions from all quarters of the U.S. and a host of foreign countries and showcases and champions these exceptional poets and writers in each of its twice-annual print journals.
