This report ranks all 50 states and the District of Columbia based on 17 measures of prevalence of mental health conditions and access to care for youth and adults. These measures are collected from federal data sources, including data from SAMHSA, the CDC, and the Department of Education. Most of the data for the 2025 State of Mental Health in America report were gathered through 2023.
These rankings provide a state-level view of mental health needs, access to care, and outcomes in the U.S. The 2025 State of Mental Health in America report can be used to track changes in mental health at the state level over time. The findings are meant to help inform policy and program planning, analysis, and evaluation.
