Alexandria, VA (April 29, 2026) – More than 200 iconic landmarks across the country will be lit in green, the color of mental health awareness, to mark the beginning of Mental Health Month in May. This annual effort, championed by Mental Health America (MHA), aims to promote public understanding, conversation, and care for mental well-being.

“At Mental Health America, we are proud to have established Mental Health Month in 1949, with the goal of educating the public about mental illness, mental health, and recovery,” said Pierluigi Mancini, Ph.D., interim president and CEO of Mental Health America. “This annual effort literally shines a spotlight on mental health awareness across the country, opening the door to conversations about mental well-being and reminding anyone who may be struggling that they are not alone.”

Half of Americans will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime, 1 in 5 will experience a mental health condition in a given year, and 5 in 5 are managing their mental health every day. This year’s Mental Health Month theme — More Good Days, Together — aims to meet people where they are, support them as whole people, and recognize that “good” is defined by their unique experience and goals. Though the path may look different for everyone, we all deserve more good days, together.
