This Pride month, join young leaders from Mental Health America as they explore how peer support creates powerful pathways to belonging and resilience. Peer support has always thrived in communities where traditional systems fall short, making it a natural fit for supporting LGBTQ+ youth who may not see themselves reflected in conventional mental health services.

Our presenters will share personal stories of transformation through peer connection and demonstrate how inclusive peer support builds on the LGBTQ+ community’s long tradition of mutual aid and chosen family. You’ll discover practical frameworks for creating welcoming peer support programs, learn about successful models led by and for LGBTQ+ youth, and explore how these approaches foster authentic community where every young person can thrive.

You’ll leave with actionable strategies to support LGBTQ+ youth through the power of peer connection and youth leadership.

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the unique value of inclusive peer support for LGBTQ+ youth and how shared lived experience creates powerful healing connections
  • Identify practical strategies for adapting existing peer support programs to be more welcoming and responsive to LGBTQ+ youth needs
  • Explore successful models of LGBTQ-led peer support initiatives and learn how these approaches can be implemented in various community settings
  • Recognize policy and practice opportunities for expanding access to culturally responsive peer support that honors the strength and resilience of LGBTQ+ youth and communities
